Let me Clarify

I said our book group was going to read "Chickens in the Headlights and Bullies in the Headlights" for July...we are still meeting on the 2nd July and Sherilyn's house to talk about "the Uglies" series...and then, read the other two books during July so that we can discuss them in August. THANKS!

Chickens Don't Have Armpits

For all of you who are Authors, we have VERY EXCITING NEWS! One of my favorite Authors who wrote the books, "Chickens in the Headlights" and "Bullies in the Headlights," is related to my friend Jillyn. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his family last Sunday. He was very interesting, with such great advice for writing. He agreed that he would come to our book group and talk about ways to improve on writing, his process of getting his books published and tell a few stories about his growing up. This is a once in a lifetime chance to talk one on one with a real author who's works were published. This is your opportunity to also enjoy a great evening of fried chicken, potluck and socializing. This will be held in August, tentatively, and is for the whole family. I will have barbecued chicken, and everyone else bring a potluck surprise. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and of course, your questions about writing and/or publishing.

And, PLEASE, make sure your read our July Pick of CHICKENS IN THE HEADLIGHTS AND BULLIES IN THE HEADLIGHTS written by Matthew Buckley. You can check them out at the library, purchase them at Deseret Book or Seagull book, or borrow my audio CDS and listen to them with the kids on a summer road trip.

As a rule, men worry more about what they can't see than about what they can.

Julius Caesar missed most everyone at bookgroup. Jennifer, Bethany, Me and my good Friend Jillyn Came and enjoyed good food and chat. We missed all others, but it turned out to be an enjoyable night with such a small group. We learned that Bethany is a fan of the Shakespear Festival in Cedar City, Ut...Jennifer is illistrating a fantasy book for an author, Jillyns daughter has tried out to play the drums in Jr. High School and my little guy made $4 bucks selling leftover birthday cookies at school today. We all had fun "how I met my husband stories" and laughed at a few youtube videos. It was a fun night. Hope you all can join us next time at Emily Shuns house for the discussion of "life is good."
Jennifers pick apparently didn't get read by many, but her and Bethany had some great literary discussion about it. I have vowed to read it by the end of July.
Thanks all for coming!

Life is so Good by Richard Glaubman

What makes a happy person, a happy life? In this remarkable book, George Dawson, a 101-year-old man who learned to read when he was 98, reflects on the philosophy he learned from his father--a belief that "life is so good"--as he offers valuable lessons in living and a fresh, firsthand view of America during the twentieth century.

July 2nd

7 pm at Sherilyn Dedecker's home, 447 E 400 N

The Uglies, The Pretties, The Specials by Scott Westerfeld

This arc of Scott Westerfeld's UGLIES trilogy follows the high-tech adventures of Tally Youngblood. As an ugly, then a pretty, and finally a special, Tally works to take down a society created to function with perfect-looking people who never have a chance to think for themselves.

Book group success

Book group at Bethany's was a success! We even had two new ladies join us, Sherilyn Dedecker and Sara Eskelson, and we hope they will come again.

The Thief triology was loved by most. Bethany loved the strong female characters, and felt that that made the male protaganist even better. Jennifer liked the story for a good story, and even her kids read it and like it she said. It was well written and was enjoyed. Thank you for the suggestion Bethany!

Don't forget that we will be meeting next month at my house, 362 N. 300 E. for Jennifers book, "Julius Caesar." She lives in Layton and felt it might be easier for everyone to stay in the area. Bring something yummy to share, food makes everything, even a book you may not like better!
